The ballet positions:
Your feet should be as turned out to the sides as possible. The turn out should come from your hips, not your knees. If your hips, knees or any part of the legs hurt when you do this then turn your feet slightly inwards, you are probably turning out too far. Always remember, when you're dancing, if it hurts then stop doing it! Your turn out should improve the more you dance and the more flexible you become.
1st Position
Heels touching
2nd Position
Legs apart
3rd Position
Heel touching arch of other foot
4th Position
Feet apart and parallel to each other
5th Position
Feet parallel to each other, heel touching toe

Thinking of becoming professional?
Be careful how you treat others. Word gets around easily and if people have heard you can be difficult to work with they won't want you! Also you never know where your classmates/colleagues might go. One day they could be auditioning you, and if they don't like you, they won't cast you.
Everyone is your competition.
