I studied ballet when I was young. I enjoyed it,
but you wouldn’t have said it was my passion. Unfortunately, due to the cost of
classes, costumes and uniform, I had to stop. After leaving, I explored various
styles of dance from Jazz to Street, Freestyle to Modern, and revisited Ballet
whilst at primary school. Although I looked up to my teacher it was still clear
that dancing was not my passion, and I did not remain committed.
When I was nine my Grandmother took me to London to
see “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat”! I was besotted with Lee
Mead, and dreamed of being the Narrator alongside him! A year later (after also
seeing “The Sound of Music”) I found the 2004 DVD of “The Phantom of the
Opera”. After replaying the film countless times my Gran, again, took me to
London. I came back energized and inspired! I wanted to be Christine Daae!
However, we all believed this would be short lived.
A year later I had started singing lessons. I loved
it more than anything. I also persuaded my mum to let me take up Street dance
classes, as I was aware; if I wanted to be on the West End I needed to be able
to dance. But, like before, I couldn’t stay committed and I didn’t enjoy it, so
I stopped after a year. Despite this I still looked for other styles. Until,
after querying about Jazz dance classes my current teacher recommended Lyrical
dance. I’d never heard of this. Nonetheless, I went to my 4 free trial
sessions, and I loved it. I later started Jazz and Tap as well, and
now dancing is my passion! I love it more than anything! I look up to my
dance teachers, past and present, and remain confident that; if I don’t make it
on the stage I will be delighted to teach and maybe own a school of my own!
So, why have I made this? Well, I guess this is
teaching in a way! I know what it is like starting out and am willing to help
you on your dance journey! I’ll recommend my favourite dancewear and do my best
to help you achieve your goals!
I know I am not a world class dancer,
I am just a student! But that’s the point of this page! See the “I can’t” page
for what I cannot and will not pretend to know about dancing.
